New experiences in big places! Great job Ginger!
Spay and neuter your pets they say. You hear it ALL the time in the animal community. Yes it’s true, we have an overpopulation of pets. Animals are being euthanized every day in shelters that are crammed full of unwanted pets. But we are spaying and neutering and the problem continues. Not only that but there’s an increase in cancer, endocrine disease, hormonal imbalances...this list goes on and on. Is altering our pets really the answer? Or is it causing more harm than intended? Here’s the thing, bitches (female dogs calm down) only cycle 2 times per year...2 times. And these cycles last only 2-3 weeks..so for approximately 6 weeks a year your dog can get pregnant. Why are we not educating the public on this? Why do we focus so much on removing vital hormones from our animals? And why are we doing it so young, before their bodies are even fully developed? I think we can change this cycle, I think there are viable alternatives to fully altering our animals. For one there are veterinarians out there performing ovary-sparing spays and vasectomies. This essential makes your animal sterile while leaving their hormone producing gonads intact. Perfect solution to both problems, irresponsible breeding and health consequences from removing the hormones. It’s time for a change! I’m not saying spaying and neutering doesn’t have its place, I just think we need to look at the whole picture and do what’s best for our pets.
