The first picture was clicked in 2015. Most people reach this physique and get satisfied. They get to see their abs. Look good in all pictures. And then stay in a deficit so as to NOT lose the hard earned abs. Some even tend to think that they have reached their genetic limit. But getting visible abs is just a small part of the process. If you stay stuck to that, there's a good chance you'll stop growing. @shredded_ashish didn't stop there. With this physique he won Mr.Jammu back then. He then went on a calculated surplus for a major part of the year, cut back the excess fat again and followed it with yet another gaining phase. 90% of the time was spent in a surplus and sticking to the workout consistently. His heaviest squat was 110kgs for one repetition. Today it stands at 230kgs. All of this in a matter of 3yrs. All of that hardwork has paid off. Look at his legs. There's a world of a difference between the two pictures. Not just the quads, but even his upper body saw some real good changes. He still has abs. But now he can maintain this condition while eating 3600-3800kcals. When we say that this is a lifelong pursuit, this is what we mean. Ashish could've stopped at Mr.Jammu and stayed sexy but he's looking to progress. He went from looking like a paanwala to "ye natural nahi ho sakta" Can you imagine how he'll look a couple years later?
