This is where I lost my phone last week. It was the end of workshop day 3 with @kerrypayne and I had just come from righteously getting soaked by a rainstorm while shooting in a forest (so awesome tho!). Just as I was about to give up waiting for the rain to pass, it tapered off. So I headed for the beach where I was met with THIS 👆🏼. Pure bliss and gratefulness overtook me and I just started running…or rather, frolicking down the beach! I was so very happy to be there, solo, with the energy of the sea flooding each and every molecule.

Following that moment, my phone (which was in my pocket due to my purse strap breaking earlier) started playing one of my late brother’s favourite songs. ❤️ I took it out of my pocket and winked up at him before going to rinse my sandals in the ocean.

Just then, a gigantic wave came barreling out of the sea, as if ravenous, intent on swallowing me whole. I sprinted the other way and as soon as I was out of its path, checked that I still had all the “things”. MY PHONE! It was MIA. Not in my hand, not in my pocket and nowhere in sight. I searched the small area where it could have fallen out as long as I could, but the park warden was signalling for me to come back.

Of course my initial reaction was WHY did that song come on when it did, which caused me to take my phone out of my pocket and seemed to be the precursor to its disappearance. I didn’t know the answer at the time but I have learned in my life not to fight against what one can’t change. Roll with the tides baby.

It really was a great time to not have a phone and I didn’t bother to get another one until I absolutely needed to (Monday driving from Maine to NY when navigation came in extra handy👍🏼). Those 5 days without the pings and dings distracting and controlling my life, was blissful. I felt clearer, calmer, happier and could truly engage with my surroundings. .
What we think at first are mishaps, unfortunate circumstances or bad luck can actually turn into blessings. Thanks big bro for the digital break, I didn’t know I needed. ❤️ I see many more unforced in my future.
