The Earth Speaks~ Homemade drop spindle. Fresh spun wool yarn. ✨ I have attempted hand spinning a few times before without success. This time, I went into the forest and found the materials to make my own spindle. I searched the internet for a tutorial but ended up more confused. So I decided to ask the wood and the wool how the mountain women spin yarn. I waited and listened and began moving the fibers and smooth wood in my hands. I had to consciously quiet my mind. Soon, as if by accident, my hand slipped and the freshly spun yarn caught at the top of the spindle and held, the secret I had been asking for, revealed. I have a long way to go before I am anywhere near efficient, but I am absolutely inspired to keep practicing. And, most importantly, I will remember to consult the 'World Wise Web' before typing up any future Google searches. ✨

It’s a glorious day for #fiberfriday! I want to share how this simple slouch beanie started my shop + how I helped support our families dreams + others.
•
It began with a knitting project. A simple slouch beanie. I was a novice knitter still learning much about the craft. I wanted to try something quick + easy. After my 1st successful project I excitedly shared my hat on IG, daring to show my friends the what I had made. The large response I received from everyone shocked me! They all loved it. Many stated I should make more + sell them! I didn’t know what to think as it wasn’t something I planned. I was just having fun! But challenges are fun + the extra money would help, so I gave it a go!

The 1st couple months I sold hats off my personal IG account + a few months later I started a business one. I worked hard to gain followers + make sales. I was amazed at all I accomplished in that first year! I just had my 4th kiddo + was newly pregnant with my 5th (along with homeschooling).

I gained amazing followers who turned into real life friends! Connecting w/creatives + mtg new people became my favorite thing! The community + encouragement I found on IG was inspiring. The way everyone collaborated + worked together was eye-opening. The goal was to show off one other’s talents, lift up + encourage. What’s better than lifting others up + helping them succeed? Nothing! I owe some of my success not only to God but to those who saw I’m excited for the new challenges that lay ahead! in me worth pouring into.

The 2nd year I started my Etsy shop ready to make this business official. The past 5 years (5?! 😱)I learned much about marketing, gaining a following + creating community. I made new friends, gained amazing customer friendships + learned to be confident in my craft. This venture has been crazy + amazing!

This hat, that knitting project has changed my life in so many ways. Despite not knitting hats to sell this fall, I’m happy that I’ve had the opportunities it provided for me. This year is a year to grow my knitting craft through fiberfridays, along w/sharpening my other creative edges: photography + writing. I’m excited for the new challenges that lay ahead!
