#MachuPicchu, #İnka Medeniyeti’nin zirvede olduğu 1450’li yıllarda inşa edildi. 1572’deki İspanyol İşgali sonrası bir yüzyıl kadar terk edilen bu yapıda yaşayan insanların çiçek hastalığı nedeniyle öldüğü ve bu yüzden yapının o yüzden terk edildiği de bazı tarihçiler tarafından öne sürülüyor.

İnka başkenti #Cusco’dan sadece 80 kilometre uzaklıkta olmasına rağmen İspanyolla bu yapıyı asla keşfedemedi. Bu nedenle Machu Picchu’nun bugüne dek sapasağlam kalması mümkün oldu.

So, in fact there are two Machu Picchus - one is the name is the citadel and another one - the mountain which is right above the ruins. . Little did I know when buying an additional ticket to Machu Picchu the mountain that it would mean some 600 meters up the stairs. No, something is not right. UP. THE. STAIRS. Mason and I spent the first week exploring the amazing Sacred Valley in Peru. We left Ollantaytambo and set out on the Inca Trail for an incredible 4 day hike, taking us through many of the Incan ruins.
On the fourth day, we rose early (I’m talking 3am early) and set out for the Sun Gate, which overlooks Machu Picchu and lines up the shadows for the winter solstice. After running the trail to the Sun Gate the whole way to beat the crowd, we snapped a few photos and headed down to Machu Picchu!

It was fantastic - we arrived so early there were only a handful of people at the complex with us, giving us a few minutes alone with some of the most spectacular views Peru has to offer.

We changed quickly, and Elias showed us around, explaining the incredible architecture that was before us.

The 12-15 foot deep pre-Incan foundation is the only way this magnificent complex has survived. The loosely stacked rocks over the entire mountain to allow for drainage without causing erosion.

The only part of the complex that has eroded significantly is the wall in the portion of the video where rocks have slid, but this was only due to the shadows that are cast that has caused one side to experience morning dew. This tiny amount of moisture has moved the rocks over the centuries. Other than that small mistake, the entire mountaintop is practically unchanged!

It also wasn’t completely finished, as the Inca were still in the process of building when the Spanish conquistadors cut off their supply lines in the 1500s, causing them to abandon the central administration complex of their empire..
