Stora Holmen hette först Prostön, sedan Landshövdingeholmen, eftersom landshövdingen hade sin kålgård här. År 1817 bekostade landshövding Nils Gyldenstolpe anläggandet av en engelsk park på holmen. En obelisk till minne av detta finns alltjämt kvar på den östra delen av holmen. Senare skänkte landshövdingen holmen till staden på villkor att den skulle förbli park. En kaférörelse och senare ett värdshus uppstod. Det fanns även en kägelbana. Stora Holmen var förr en plats för folkliga nöjen såsom musik, dans, fyrverkerier och ballonguppstigningar. . Stora Holmen was named Prostön, then Landshövdingeholmen, because the governor had his cabbage here. In 1817 the landlord Nils Gyldenstolpe paid the construction of an English park on the island. An obelisk in memory of this is still on the eastern part of the island. Later, the governor gave the island to the city on condition that it remained a park. A cafe movement and later an inn arose. There was also a kägelbaan. Stora Holmen was once a place for popular entertainment such as music, dance, fireworks and balloon climbs.

I’m definitely guilty of procrastinating. Even when it’s something that I’m passionate about I think to myself I’ll start tomorrow or the next day and before I know it a years gone by! 🙈 So yesterday I watched a Ted talks by Tim Urban from waitbutwhy.com and he really put into perspective how detrimental procrastination can be especially when it’s something you want to do that hasn’t got a deadline. He finished with a picture of a chart with a box for every week of a 90 year life and it just shows how short life is! If I had to visually show you the literal definition of strong #moat in #valueinvesting , this is it #edinburghcastle The term #economic moat, popularized by #WarrenBuffett , refers to a business' ability to maintain competitive advantages over its competitors in order to protect its long-term profits and market share from competing firms. Just like a #medieval #castle , the moat serves to protect those inside the #fortress and their #riches from outsiders. Remember that a competitive advantage is essentially any factor that allows a company to provide a good or service that is similar to those offered by its competitors and, at the same time, outperform those competitors in profits. A good example of a competitive advantage would be a low-cost advantage, such as cheap access to raw materials. Very successful #investors such as Buffett have been adept at finding companies with solid economic moats but relatively low share prices .
