This fall and winter @thewdfw’s fisher reintroduction project moved to the North Cascades. Several dozen animals captured in Alberta will be released at sites in North Cascades National Park and on the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. By the early part of the 20th century these animals were extirpated from Washington due to fur trapping. Reintroducing this charismatic species will restore an integral part of the ecosystem. 📸: @paulbannick • Fisher (Pekania pennanti) are part of the mustelid (weasel) family and is one of the few carnivores to successfully prey on porcupines!! They prefer mature forests and often den in old pileated woodpecker cavities! Keep your eye open for the adorable creatures.
